Cops Tracking Down Proton Saga Owner Driving Against Traffic On Linkedua
Johor police are actively searching for the driver of a Proton Saga who was allegedly driving against the flow of traffic on the Malaysia-Singapore Second Link Highway (Linkedua) on Wednesday.
The Iskandar Puteri District chief police, Assistant Commissioner M Kumarasan announced that an investigation has been launched into the incident prompted by a dashcam video that quickly went viral on social media, showing the Proton Saga speeding in the wrong direction on the highway.
"Although no report has been received regarding the incident, police are actively conducting investigations, including efforts to track down the driver involved," he said in a statement on Thursday.
A dashcam video has gone viral since Wednesday evening, showing a Proton Saga recklessly driven against the flow of traffic in the right lane at high speed on Linkedua. The driver's actions caused panic and alarm among other drivers, with audible screams and shouts captured in the video as they were forced to swerve and give way to avoid a potentially catastrophic collision.
Driving against traffic is a serious offense that can result in fatal accidents. Those convicted of this offense face a maximum fine of RM15,000, up to five years in prison, and a five-year suspension of their driving license.
