Revealed earlier today, the refreshed 2025 Toyota bZ4X EV crossover SUV bowed with a slew of changes both inside and out.

Earlier today, Toyota took the wraps off its revised 2025 model year (2025MY) version of its bZ4X – the automaker’s first full-fledge electric vehicle (EV) crossover offering. Light aesthetic tweaks aside, the facelift brings several critical changes underneath too.

Starting with battery, the 2025 Toyota bZ4X has two choices now – just one was available prior. There’s a new smaller 57.7 kWh pack paired exclusively with a front-wheel-drive (FWD) setup, followed by slightly enlarged 73.1 kWh pack – up from 71.4 kWh prior – paired with either a FWD or all-wheel-drive (AWD) setup.

Outputs, have increased too thanks to upgraded ‘eAxles’ e-motors primed with silicon carbide (SIC) semiconductors. The figures Toyota touts stands at 167 HP (57.7 kWh, FWD), 224 HP (73.1 kWh, FWD), and 343 HP (73.1 kWh, AWD). In turn, this translates to 0-100 KM/H sprint times of 8.6 secs, 7.4 sec, and 5.1 secs respectively.

Critical powertrain changes see the bZ4X gaining two battery capacity choices with improved outputs and range. The peppiest of the lot has 343 HP and does 0-100 KM/H sprints in just 5.1 secs.

Aptly, the slightly enlarged battery capacity sees the most efficient trim, that being the 73.1 kWh FWD variant, boast a claimed WLTP-rated 573 KM range figure. The base 57.7 kWh FWD variant offers 445 KM (WLTP), whereas the 73.1 kWh AWD range-topper offers a respectable 520 KM (WLTP) figure instead.

Improved too are charging speeds as the on-board charger (OBC) in higher grade variants of the 2025 Toyota bZ4X gains 22 kW AC charging abilities – a huge step up from the current model, which only accepts a rather paltry 6.6 kW AC input. DC charging speed, on the other hand, remains unchanged at 150 kW.

Whilst on battery and charging still, another notable change is the addition of battery pre-conditioning function as standard in the 2025 Toyota bZ4X. This can be activated manually or automatically, the latter by setting the on board navigation to a fast-charging station – part of an EV routing function present aboard.

Visually, the 2025 Toyota bZ4X borrows cues from the Prius and Camry, and this is evident with its cleaner new front. The rear, on the other hand, appears unchanged.

Visually, the 2025 Toyota bZ4X borrows exterior design touches as seen in the latest-gen Prius and Camry for its sleek and aerodynamic front end, whilst the rear end looks relatively unchanged. Inside, the cabin has been revamped to look cleaner, boasting a larger new 14-inch infotainment screen and dual wireless charging pads.

Elsewhere, Toyota also notes updated suspension settings, followed by tweaks to the bodywork. The former was performed to enhance both driving comforts and dynamics, whereas the latter was performed to lower noise, vibration and harshness (NVH) levels further for improved cabin comforts too.

Set to enter the European market later this year where it is one of Toyota’s top-five best-sellers, the 2025 Toyota bZ4X is also set to come with an eight-year or 160,0000 KM EV battery warranty plus a 10-year or 1,000,000 KM battery care programme. Take note that the latter is only offered to European buyers for now.

On board, the cabin gains a cleaner look too thanks to the redesigned dash and centre console that now houses a larger new 14-inch touchscreen plus dual wireless charging pads.

Closer to home, the UMW Toyota Motor (UMWT) previewed the pre-facelift Toyota bZ4X back in May 2023, and again in Feb 2024 during its Beyond Zero expo. Though the firm initially confirmed its intent to market it, the model was eventually held back for reasons unknown.

Given the rather slow reception of its Lexus RZ450e twin, and the impending expiry of tax incentives for fully imported (CBU) EVs at the end of this year, the chances of UMWT launching the face-lifted 2025 Toyota bZ4X detailed seems even less likely now.
