The Malaysian Institute of Road Safety Research (MIROS) has initiated FitSURE - a new initiative designed to help parents and guardians choose the right child restraint system (CRS) that fits their vehicle.

FitSURE is a CRS compatibility assessment program that ensures child car seats can be securely installed in different vehicle models and seating positions. By making sure a CRS fits correctly, this initiative helps reduce the risk of injury in an event of an accident.

Parents and guardians can check the assessment results at www.aseancap.org/crs to see which CRS models have been tested for their specific vehicle.

So far, six vehicle models have been tested under the program - Perodua Alza, Perodua Myvi, Proton Saga, Toyota Vios, Toyota Veloz and Honda City.

Studies show that an improperly installed CRS significantly increases the risk of injury during a crash. While many child car seats are available on the market, not all fit every car model perfectly. FitSURE helps solve this problem by providing clear, reliable information based on thorough installation tests.

This program acts as a trusted guide for parents before they purchase a CRS, ensuring they choose a seat that is both safe and compatible with their car. MIROS carries out objective and detailed assessments, providing parents with real-world-tested data they can rely on.

FitSURE also makes the CRS selection process easier by allowing parents to review compatibility results before buying. This helps them make the safest choice for their children and reduces the risks that come with an ill-fitting CRS.

MIROS hopes that more vehicle manufacturers and CRS distributors will get involved, so more models can be tested, benefiting even more families.

According to MIROS Director-General, Associate Professor Ts. Dr. Siti Zaharah Binti Ishak, FitSURE is an important initiative that ensures child car seats are properly installed and compatible with different vehicle models.

With the implementation of FitSURE, MIROS is confident that this initiative will become a key reference for parents and guardians prioritizing child safety during travel.
