- smart #5 Debuts in Europe with Special Summit Edition
smart’s largest model to date has just made its debut in Europe, featuring a special, 4x4-inspired Summit Edition.
Months after making its Chinese debut, the smart #5 has now been launched in its second motherland in Europe. Available in both single-motor and dual-motor versions, the brand’s largest model to date is offered in five distinct trim levels in the Old Continent, including a rugged, 4x4-inspired Summit Edition.
Unlike other smart models, the #5 underpins Geely’s PMA2+ platform, which it shares with other larger EVs like the Zeekr 7X and the Geely Galaxy E8, featuring an 800-volt battery architecture. While the #5 is still not as big as the 7X, it is still smart’s largest model to date, spanning 4,705 MM long, 1,920 MM wide, 1,705 MM tall, and with a wheelbase of 2,900 MM.
The EU-spec smart #5 Summit Edition gains a slew of adventure gears.
Design-wise, the #5 follows the same design ethos as both the #1 and #3 but appears to be boxier and more rugged than its siblings. In case you still find the #5 to be too vanilla for your liking, there’s also the special Summit Edition, which adds a slew of adventure gears like a dedicated roof rack with side ladder, an electric tow hitch, and many more.
Similar to its Chinese cousins, the EU-spec #5 also comes with a premium cabin laden with luxury amenities and equipment. Key highlights include the triple-screen setup that supports video streaming and gaming, a large 25.6-inch augmented reality head-up display (AR-HUD), a slew of wood trims, heated rear seats, a full panoramic glass roof, a 256-colour ambient lighting system, and a bespoke 20-speaker Sennheiser audio system.
On the battery front, the baseline #5 Pro gets the smaller 76-kWh LFP-type battery pack that is good for less than 480 KM of EV range, while the Pro+ variant gets a larger 100-kWh NMC unit that gives it up to 589 KM of WLTP range. Unfortunately, smart has yet to reveal any powertrain specs for these single-motor variants, but we’ve been told prior that the dual-motor AWD variants like Pulse and Summit Edition can get from 0 to 100 KM/H in just 4.9 seconds.
Order books for the new smart #5 are slated to open later on April 24, 2025, in Germany, with prices starting from €45,900 (RM220,348) for the Pro variant, while the special Summit Edition is tagged at €56,900 (RM273,154). Autocar UK also confirms that the #5 will be heading to the UK market later in Oct this year, meaning that a right-hand drive (RHD) version is already in the pipeline.
