Chery Himla Pick-Up Truck ICE Variants Detailed – Petrol & Diesel Available
We’ve been given new details regarding the powertrain specs for the ICE variants of the Chery Himla pick-up truck.
In case you missed it, Chinese automaker Chery just debuted its new global pick-up truck brand at Auto Shanghai 2025 earlier this week, known as Himla. While details were scarce during its global debut, we finally have some new details regarding the powertrain setup for the combustion variants of the Himla dual-cab model, where it features both turbodiesel and petrol variants.
We’ll start with the former, as this is the variant being shown to us earlier today at Chery International’s headquarters in Wuhu, China, where it hides a turbodiesel mill with a somewhat odd displacement under its hood.
That is because the diesel variant of the Himla comes with a 2.3-litre 4-cyl turbodiesel engine under its hood, which is rated at 161 HP (120 kW) and 420 NM. Said oil-burning mill can be mated to either an eight-speed slushbox or a six-speed manual, with both 2WD and 4WD drivelines to choose from.
Meanwhile, the petrol variant gets a slightly larger 2.4-liter 4-cyl naturally-aspirated mill that delivers 158 HP and 230 NM. Similar to the turbodiesel variant, the petrol Himla also gets both 6MT and 8AT transmission options, as well as either 2WD or 4WD driveline.
What’s also interesting about the particular Himla pick-up truck unit displayed here is the array of custom accessories it comes decked in—all of which are made in-house by Chery themselves. Among the usual adventure gear offered to the Himla are a beefier roof rack with an LED light bar at the front, a sports bar canopy at the rear, a roof-mounted tent with a built-in ladder, a 50-litre portable water tank, and many more.
What certainly caught our attention are the retractable side steps the Himla came with, which automatically deploy once any of the truck’s doors are being opened. Keen eyes will also notice that this Himla truck rolls on highway terrain (H/T) tyres instead of the rugged A/T units used on the display unit at Shanghai earlier this week.
As of now, Chery International has just confirmed that the Himla pick-up truck brand will be arriving in selected global markets as early as late 2025, with the first few being the Middle East and Latin America regions. No word on whether Himla will be making its way into the ASEAN region for now, but we’d reckon this Wuhu-made pick-up truck looks quite promising and can put up a fight against the usual Japanese suspects in our market.
