Mazda officially launched the MX-5 35th Anniversary Edition in Thailand recently. Aptly, this special celebrates 35 years of the beloved roadster.

Based on the facelifted fourth-gen (chassis code: ND) model, this special edition stays true to its legendary roots while receiving exclusive upgrades.

Finished in an eye-catching Artisan Red Premium, the MX-5 35th Anniversary Edition is priced at an eye-watering THB3,069,000 (RM400,000) in Thailand. Number of units allocated to Mazda Thailand is also unknown as the global production number is reportedly capped at just 1,000 units.

This special edition roadster will feature a sporty premium cabin decked in Sports Tan leather seats, elegant stitching and a 35th Anniversary Edition symbol with a serial number.

This limited-run model retains the signature traits of the MX-5, including its compact size, lightweight frame, and precise handling. Staying true to Mazda’s Kodo Design and Jinba-Ittai philosophy, it continues to deliver an engaging driving experience that connects car and driver.

Enhancements include 17-inch Bright alloy wheels, a push button motorised retractable hardtop and body-colored side mirrors. Inside, premium materials extend across the door panels and console, while the 35th Anniversary logo is prominently displayed on the headrest, seats, and floor mats.

Modern technology complements the driving experience, featuring an 8.8-inch Mazda Connect infotainment system, Apple CarPlay compatibility and a Bose surround sound system with nine speakers.

Under the hood, the MX-5 35th Anniversary Edition is powered by the familiar 2.0-litre SKYACTIV-G mill producing 184 HP and 205 NM torque. For the Thai market, it will only be offered with a six-speed automatic transmission.

This limited run model will also get the usual safety feature consisting of dual front and side airbags, an anti-theft alarm system and a four-point rear distance sensor. It also features Mazda’s i-Activsense suite, which includes Advanced Blind Spot Monitoring (BSM), Lane Departure Warning System (LDWS), Adaptive LED Headlamps (ALH) and more.

Now that the special edition has reached Thailand, it raises the question - could Malaysia be next? Additionally, if it should come to our shores, it will be interesting to see the price tag placed on this limited run special given the RM400,000 ask in Thailand.

The MX-5 in general has a strong following and demand in Malaysia, evident through healthy official and grey-import sales meaning should it be launched here it would surely generate significant excitement among enthusiasts and collectors alike.
