Heading the call from Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim and Transport Minister Anthony Loke for private entities to aid victims of the Putra Heights gas explosion, Proton has stepped up as the latest automaker to offer support, joining Chery Auto and Carro.

To help those affected, Proton has pledged RM250,000 in financial aid. This assistance is aimed at displaced residents, including those staying at temporary evacuation centres (PPS) like Dewan Masjid Putra Heights and the Subang Jaya City Council’s multi-purpose hall, Dewan Camelia.

With many victims expressing concerns that the aid they’ve received so far isn’t enough, Proton hopes this contribution will ease some of their burden.

The incident, caused by a ruptured gas pipeline, triggered a massive fire that tore through a 500-meter stretch. Assistant Commissioner Wan Azlan Wan Mamat confirmed that the blaze caused severe damage, impacting 235 buildings.

Among them, 87 homes were completely destroyed, while another 148 suffered varying degrees of damage. The fire also affected 399 vehicles - 225 of them were directly burned, while 174 suffered heat damage.

Proton has expressed its deepest sympathies to the victims, recognising the hardships they now face. Beyond financial aid, the company is also offering practical help: six Proton service center's in the area have been designated to provide free, thorough assessments for Proton vehicles damaged in the fire.

This initiative aims to help owners with insurance claims and ensure their vehicles are properly repaired. Whether their cars were parked at ground zero or moved before the fire hit, Proton’s goal is to offer clear repair solutions while making sure owners get the full benefits of their insurance policies.

Those seeking help can contact Proton’s 24-hour careline at 1-800-88-8398 or WhatsApp 012-219 5426 for immediate support.
