Making its global debut at this year’s Concorso d’Eleganza Villa d’Este is the all-new BMW Concept Speedtop.

Remember the sleek Concept Skytop unveiled by BMW last year? Turns out the Bavarian also created a sportier shooting brake version of said targa top concept, known as the BMW Concept Speedtop. Unveiled at this year’s Concorso d’Eleganza Villa d’Este auto exhibition, this sporty two-door wagon could be made into a limited-run production model, featuring the marque’s most potent V8 engine to date.

At one glance, you can see that the Speedtop gets the same front-end design as its topless twin, featuring a shark-nose front end with BMW’s signature kidney grille design. Also present here are slim LED headlights, plus a sleek and elongated front hood design to accommodate the large V8 power plant.

Beyond the A-pillars, the Speedtop looks drastically different from last year’s Skytop, as it gets a sporty two-door wagon bodystyle with frameless doors and hidden door handles while riding on special two-tone, 14-spoke wheels designed specifically for this concept.

The sporty rear end is complemented by the same slim LED taillights and large dual tailpipes as the Skytop, while the small roof-mounted spoiler completes the whole sporty shooting brake look in this concept. Besides the wagon bodystyle, the bespoke Floating Sunstone Maroon paint job is also special to the Speedtop, which contrasts well with the Skytop’s Floating Sundown Silver hue.

The maroon theme continues as we get inside the Speedtop, as its cabin is draped in bespoke two-tone leather upholstery finished in Sundown Maroon and Moonstone White, with the same Floating Sunstone Maroon found in certain parts of the cabin. Despite its concept form, the Speedtop appears to get ‘regular-looking’ amenities, as many production BMW models of late do, including the floating central infotainment screen, the central console stack featuring crystal gear shifter and dial, and many more.

The same two-tone upholstery can also be found lining the Speedtop’s cargo bay, where it features a unique split luggage compartment for more room. Also present here are custom Schedoni bags that fit perfectly in either bespoke compartment.

Beyond its concept form, BMW did subtly confirm that the Concept Speedtop will go into production as a limited-run special, possibly alongside its targa twin. Although the Bavarian automaker is quite cagey on the detailed specifications of the Speedtop, BMW did mention that this sleek wagon will pack its most powerful V8 engine, possibly the same 4.4-litre twin-turbo unit used in the current M5, minus the electrification part.

And unlike many of its previous concepts, BMW actually plans to make 70 examples of the Speedtop, which will be delivered to its wealthiest clientele around the world. Predictably, there’s no mention of the asking price for each of these exquisite examples, but we won’t be surprised if it would go beyond the six-digit mark.
