Toyota Crown Sedan Gains Special 70th Anniversary Edition in Japan
Toyota celebrates the 70th anniversary of its iconic Crown nameplate by launching a special edition Crown Sedan.
Toyota is celebrating the 70th anniversary of its iconic Crown nameplate this year, and the Japanese automotive giant has revealed a special commemorative version of the current-gen Crown Sedan. This special 70th anniversary model features some unique design changes that make it more special than its vanilla counterpart.
Design-wise, the 70th anniversary model is offered in two special colourways, namely the two-tone Precious White Pearl and Precious Metal and a darker two-tone Precious Black Pearl and Precious Metal colourway. Regardless of colours, both of them get several commemorative design touches, including “The 70th” badges, 20-inch multi-spoke aluminium alloy wheels finished in matte black, and many more.
The commemoration continues as we get inside the car, with the special Crown Sedan gaining a unique anniversary logo where the Crown emblem is laser-etched on the dashboard and engraved on the jewel-like gear selector. The same anniversary logo can also be found on the puddle lights, the recycled leather pouch for the manual, and the key fob. Completing the luxurious feel inside this special Crown Sedan is the Black Lustre interior that comes with matching wood grain inserts.
On the powertrain front, the special edition Crown Sedan is offered with the same powertrain options as its normal siblings. One uses the same 2.5-litre 4-cyl series-parallel hybrid (HEV) found on both the new Camry and Prius, while the other essentially adopts the fuel cell hydrogen (FCEV) powertrain setup used on the Toyota Mirai FCEV.
Exclusively available in the Japanese domestic market (JDM), the all-new Toyota Crown Sedan Special Edition Z “The 70th” starts at JPY 7.55 million (RM222,913) for the HEV version, while the fuel cell version is tagged higher at JPY 8.55 million (RM252,438). And as per any limited edition JDM models, the chances for it to hit other overseas markets are close to zero, but there’s still a slight chance for us to see one in the grey parallel import markets.
