- Foreign Driving License Conversions To Cease On May 19 - JPJ
Starting today, May 19, the Road Transport Department (JPJ) is no longer processing requests to switch foreign driver's licenses to Malaysian licenses.
Foreigners applying for a Malaysian driver's license will now follow the standard procedure required of Malaysian citizens.
This new measure aims to enhance road safety among foreign drivers in Malaysia.
Exemptions are applied, nevertheless, to members of the diplomatic corps, participants in Malaysia My Second Home, and Malaysians who only hold foreign driving licences.
According to JPJ, foreigners staying in Malaysia for under a year can drive using a valid international driving permit from their home country, provided their nation is a signatory to the 1949 or 1968 road traffic conventions.
“For citizens of Asean countries, they only need to have their driving licence from their home country,” it added.
