- Free Street Parking For Senior Citizens In Shah Alam
To mark Shah Alam's 25th anniversary of being declared a city, the Shah Alam City Council (MBSA) is giving free street parking to senior citizens who live in Shah alam via a "golden parking" program.
Director of MBSA's Community Development Department Shahrin Ahmad, stated that this program is a gesture of appreciation for the contributions of older residents to the city.
To be eligible, according to Shahrin, applicants must be 60 years or older, be ratepayers with MBSA, and have no outstanding assessment tax payments. Furthermore, the applicant's residence and vehicle must be registered under the same name.
“The initiative can only be used at street parking under MBSA’s jurisdiction but not in two-hour parking zones, parking bays for the disabled or privately managed carparks. However, it only exempts them from parking fees.” Shahrin stated, adding that eligible individuals can only register one car per house.
Shahrin also cautioned against abusing free parking by parking in unauthorized areas or using it as a reason for children to avoid paying parking fines.
To apply for the parking permit, applicants must submit copies of their driver's license, assessment tax invoices, and car ownership certificate. The council will not issue stickers or passes; instead, eligible applicants' information will be recorded in MBSA's system for documentation and verification purposes.
