The Malaysian Automotive Association (MAA) has published its vehicle sales and production figures for April 2025, reporting a total of 60,527 vehicles sold. This marks a significant 16.8% decrease from the 72,704 units recorded in March 2025.

According to MAA, the dip in Total Industry Volume (TIV) was primarily attributed to the long Hari Raya Aidilfitri holiday period (April 1–6, 2025) as well as the high volume of festive-driven vehicle deliveries that had taken place in March ahead of the celebration.

On a Year-on-Year (YoY) basis, April 2025 saw a modest 1% increase in vehicle sales compared to the 59,900 units sold in April 2024. Year-to-Date (YTD) figures show a cumulative total of 248,730 vehicles sold as of April 2025 - a 5% decrease from the 263,050 units sold during the same period last year.

In terms of production, a total of 56,313 vehicles were produced in April 2025, reflecting a slight 2% decline from the 57,208 units recorded in April 2024. This comprises 52,925 passenger vehicles and 3,388 commercial vehicles. Cumulatively, YTD production stands at 233,916 units, down 13% from the 267,735 units recorded in the same period last year.

MAA noted that the overall production shortfall continues to reflect subdued commercial vehicle demand and ongoing adjustments in factory output levels.

Looking ahead, MAA forecasts a rebound in May 2025 vehicle sales, supported by increased demand in East Malaysia driven by the Kaamatan and Gawai festive seasons (May 30 – June 2), a greater number of working days and the continued market impact from new model launches in the recent months.
