- Mustang, BMW Owners Caught With Expired Road Tax, Citing Financial Issues
JPJ apprehended two luxury car drivers near the Kajang–Cheras Expressway on Thursday for lacking valid motor vehicle licenses (LKM) and road taxes. During questioning under Ops Harian, the drivers offered unusual explanations.
The Ford Mustang’s driver, in his early 30s, claimed his inability to renew his LKM was due to pending summonses and a driving suspension that coincided with the operation.
The second driver, a 40-year-old BMW X5's owner, confessed to driving without a valid road tax for more than a year.
“When asked why they drove with an expired road tax, both drivers claimed they didn’t have the money to renew it despite driving luxury vehicles worth hundreds of thousands of Ringgit,” Selangor JPJ director Azrin Borhan said in a statement.
Following the confiscation, the two vehicles were taken to JPJ Shah Alam for further action.
Azrin highlighted that having a fancy car does not free one from the law and that all drivers must have current LKM and insurance. Additionally, he issued a warning that anyone caught breaking the law or neglecting their obligations as drivers and car owners would face stern action.
