Ford's Latest EV Looks Like A Mini-Mustang Mach-E
Europe's newest competitor in the electric subcompact SUV market is the Ford Puma Gen-E. Its affordable pricing, moderate driving range, and stylish, Mustang-inspired style are intended to bridge the gap between Ford's expanding electric vehicle (EV) lineup and consumers on a tight budget.
The Puma Gen-E features a single front-mounted electric motor that generates 124kW and 290Nm of torque. This makes it slightly less powerful than the Puma ST hybrid, but with a substantial torque increase.

The Gen-E, weighing 1553kg and powered by a 43kWh battery pack, can hit 100km/h in eight seconds and max out at 160km/h, which is sufficient for its city-focused objectives.
On the WLTP cycle, range estimates range from about 347 to 376 km, which is less than competitors like the new Peugeot E-2008, which has a larger battery. Ford does, however, emphasise its 13.1kWh/100km energy efficiency. Competitive charging is possible with 100kW DC fast charging, which can replace 10 to 80% in 23 minutes.

The Puma Gen-E's exterior features a sharper bumper and an updated front grille that are evocative of the Mustang Mach-E. With more storage choices, such as a 574L boot, a 43L frunk, and an enhanced 'Gigabox' compartment under the boot floor, the electric version stands out inside. Its practicality is enhanced by these elements as well as the standard 12-inch infotainment screen and 12.8-inch digital cockpit.
With a starting price of £30,000 (MYR 133,000), the Puma Gen-E, which is manufactured in Romania and uses powertrain units from the UK, undercuts its hybrid Puma ST sister. This makes it Ford's most reasonably priced EV in Europe.
