Rapid Bus is set to expand its Rapid KL On-Demand service with four new zones starting Monday. The new areas will improve access in some of Kuala Lumpur’s busiest spots and key education hubs, making it easier for commuters to get around.

Among the latest zones is the Kuala Lumpur city centre, specifically the Golden Triangle area (Jalan Imbi, Jalan Sultan Ismail and Jalan Raja Chulan). This zone alone will be served by nine dedicated vans.

Other new service areas include the link between the UPM MRT station and IOI City Mall, Kelana Jaya LRT to Taman SEA and Damansara Jaya and Gombak LRT to Taman Selaseh and the International Islamic University Malaysia (IIUM).

The idea is to offer a faster, easier connection for people travelling from train stations or major bus stops to their final destinations, solving the common “last-mile” problem that many face in the city.

With traffic jams and parking headaches common in the central business district (CBD), the van service offers a simple alternative. It’s also part of a bigger push to make Kuala Lumpur more transit-friendly and less reliant on private cars.

Outside the city centre meanwhile, the new routes are aimed at students, lecturers, and campus staff in areas surrounding UPM and IIUM. The service offers them a more organised and reliable way to travel day-to-day.

According to Prasarana’s COO Amir Hamdan, this rollout shows their commitment to a public transport system that adapts to users’ needs. He added that the new zones are designed to tackle common travel issues in both high-density and education-focused areas.

This marks the second-last rollout before all 300 On-Demand vans are fully deployed by early July 2025.

The vans run daily from 6 am to 11.30 pm and bookings can be made through the Rapid On-Demand app. Currently, a flat RM1 promotional fare is still in place.

Riders can pay for their rides using Touch ‘n Go cards, MyRapid Concession Cards, the OKU Smile Travel Pass or travel passes like My50, MyCity and the Family Pass.
