Prasarana Adding 300 On-Demand Vans This Year

Prasarana Malaysia Bhd, the operator of rail services such as Light Rail Transit (LRT) networks, the KL Monorail, and Mass Rapid Transit (MRT) lines, has announced that it will add 300 new vans to its demand responsive transit (DRT) operations in new areas along the Putrajaya, Kajang, and Ampang train lines, as well as in areas that currently lack rail or Rapid Bus services.
The DRT service, which was first trialled in 2023, has helped commuters tackle the first and last mile difficulty of getting to and from the train station. Following its success in improving commuter convenience, Prasarana decided to add DRT vehicles, which would commence operation in stages between February and June.

According to transport minister Anthony Loke, the DRT service, which is a component of initiatives to increase the use of public transport, makes sure that commuters don't have to wait a long time to get to the train terminals.
“Twenty vans were used since last year and it’s popular. Many like it because we charge just RM1 one way. So from March, 300 new vans will start operating, progressively we will get new vans,” Loke said.
The Rapid DRT service is currently running the following routes in the Klang Valley: LRT Alam Megah, LRT Taman Paramount, LRT Taman Bahagia, LRT Sri Rampai, LRT GIenmarie, LRT Sri Petaling, LRT Taman Melati, and LRT Asia Jaya. In Penang, the route connects Farlim to the Air Itam district.
To utilise the service, passengers must select a specific location through the MyRapid Pulse app, and they will have to wait for around five minutes to be picked up. Daily hours for the service are 6 a.m. to 11.30 p.m. The ride is RM1, and you can pay with cash, the MyCity Pass, Family Pass, MyRapid Concession Card, Touch 'n Go, or the Free Travel Pass for OKU Smile. Free use is available to those who have the My50 Unlimited Travel Pass.
