Abandoned Cars In Cyberjaya Stir Safety Fears

3463087.jpeg A viral TikTok has shone a light on a row of abandoned cars along a Cyberjaya roadside and the growing frustration over why they’re still there.

The video by user bioQueen shows rusting vehicles with smashed windows, missing tyres, and warning stickers from the Sepang Municipal Council.

Around them, piles of torn books, clothes, and broken appliances spill onto the tarmac. “They’ve been like this for months. Road tax expired years ago. Where are the owners?” the caption asks.

Regular commuter AzmiraDzahaimi says she’s been passing the same cars since June.

“It’s dangerous, especially at night. If you don’t know the road, you could hit them,” she warned.

Some suggested many of these cars belong to foreign students who leave them behind after graduation.  KLANG-HOP-ON-HOP-OFF-BUS-(45).png
“They’re cheap to buy, so when studies are over, they just leave them,” claimed another TikTok user. Others even shared similar stories from their time studying abroad, when unwanted cars were simply left by the roadside.

But for many, the bigger question is enforcement.  “Why haven’t these been towed? When we park for five minutes, the tow truck’s there in no time"

The issue isn’t unique to Cyberjaya. In Parliament, Federal Territories Minister Datuk Seri Dr Zaliha Mustafa revealed that Kuala Lumpur is also battling a rising tide of abandoned and broken-down cars in public areas. 3463088.jpg
From January to May alone, DBKL logged 1,009 complaints and most in Segambut, Seputeh, and Setiawangsa. Some cars are left when owners die with no heirs, others are dumped at workshops, or simply forgotten.

Clearing them isn’t quick. Notices must be issued, ownership confirmed with JPJ and police, and only then can they be scrapped, a process that can stretch over six months. 2097486.jpg
Despite spending millions each year, DBKL recovers only about RM300,000 annually from auctions. With just 14 tow trucks and some vehicles needing cranes to move the backlog is piling up.
