This week, German automaker Mercedes-Benz revealed its iconic Gelandewagen SUV, also known as the G-Class, hit a new and significant production milestone. After 46 years of continuous production, the automaker has produced over 600,000 units of the G-Class to date.
Unsurprisingly, the very unit to hit that milestone production number was the very latest and fully-electric G580 with EQ Technology variant dressed in Obsidian Black. Said model was launched locally earlier this year priced from RM958,888.
Mercedes-Benz also noted it took just two years for production to reach 600,000 units from 500,000 units. Prior to which, it took roughly three years for production to hit from 400,000 to 500,000 units, and from 300,000 to 400,000 units.

This new milestone comes just two years after production reached the 500,000 units mark. Certainly notable here too is the fact that 100,000 units were produced in such a short span, thus representing serious growth for the marque here too.
Prior to which, the automaker says it took three years for its production to go from 400,000 units to 500,000 units, and roughly the same time to get from 300,000 unit to 400,000 units.
The 600,000th unit produced was the latest and all-electeic G580 with EQ Technology variant dressed in Obsidian Black metallic paintwork.

We’ll even add this also comes despite both the S-Class flagship limousine and E-Class executive sedan nameplates were produced for much longer than the G-Class.
Concurrently, the three-point star marque pointed out that the G-Class is the most customised car in its line-up. Over 90% of its buyers opting in for at least one Manufaktur customisation option, and most choose three of which on average too.

Locally, Mercedes-Benz Malaysia (MBM) officially offers the G-Class in all-electric G580 with EQ Technology (left) and high-performance Mercedes-AMG G63 (right) guises.

Presently, this military-inspired off-road 4x4 SUV stands as a ‘crown jewel’ of sorts for the premium automaker. In overseas markets, the high demand sees it command huge dealer mark-ups and spawn years-long waitlist.
Locally, besides the all-electric G580 with EQ Technology variant mentioned prior, Mercedes-Benz Malaysia (MBM) officially offers the G-Class in high-performance Mercedes-AMG G63 guise priced at RM1,948,888.

Brimmed with a 4.0-litre V8 twin-turbo heart, the G63 boasts 585 PS and 850 NM, which in turn sees it despatch 0-100 KM/H in just 2.6 secs too.

Primed with an updated 4.0-litre V8 twin-turbo powerplant producing 585 PS and 850 NM, this version of the Gelandewagen, or ‘G-Wagen’ as many fans fondly dubs it, to despatch 0-100 KM/H dashes in just 2.6 secs.
Despite recent reports online that the all-electric variant experiencing slow sales worldwide, we’re certain production of the G-Class will continue thanks to continued demands for which. Expect production to reach 700,000 units soon enough.
