Selangor Eyes DRT Comeback By Year-End

Selangor’s on-demand transit service (DRT) may be back on the road by the end of this year, as the state government finalises the next phase of its Selangor Mobility initiative.

State investment, trade and mobility committee chairman Ng Sze Han said only a handful of companies responded to the request for proposals (RFP), as operators are required to secure permits from the Land Public Transport Agency (APAD).

“Fewer than five companies responded during the RFP stage, and we are still evaluating them,” he told The Star.

Ng said the slight delay also comes as Rapid KL expands its own DRT network.  Untitled-design---2025-09-04T095604.922.png
“We are working closely with Rapid KL to avoid overlap in coverage and maximise resources,” he said, adding that the government is also deciding whether subsidies will continue under the new business model.

He hopes the service will resume by year-end, but confirmed it will be included in Selangor’s 2026 state budget.

The pilot phase, which ran from November 2023 to July 2024 across eight zones, drew strong responses in university areas but ended after providers Mobi and Trek Rides ceased operations.

Residents, meanwhile, are urging for its return.

Mike Chong from Puchong said his daughter relied on DRT for her school commute. “It gave her independence, but when it stopped, I had to drive her daily. The current routes don’t even cover her school,” he said.

Another resident, Wallace Lim, said many switched to e-hailing due to the lack of point-to-point service.

“It’s about cost versus convenience. Some are willing to pay more if it means direct drop-offs.”
