- BYD Atto 2 Gains New DM-i PHEV Variant in Europe, Debuts in 2026
The subcompact BYD Atto 2 SUV will gain a new DM-i PHEV variant in Europe next year. Is Malaysia on the list?
Just a few months after making its local debut, it appears that the BYD Atto 2 will be getting a new plug-in hybrid (PHEV) in Europe next year. Dubbed the BYD Atto 2 DM-i PHEV, this subcompact electrified SUV is slated to make its European debut later in 2026, with a right-hand drive (RHD) version also ready for the UK market.
The introduction of the Atto 2 DM-i PHEV is part of BYD’s multi-pronged strategy to cater to the fluctuating demand for battery EVs (BEVs) in the European market. And just like its BEV twin, two variants of the Atto 2 DM-i PHEV have been confirmed, both set to feature different battery sizes.
Predictably, no technical details were shared for now, but BYD did say that the Atto 2 DM-i PHEV will get up to 90 km of EV-only range. For reference, the EU-spec Atto 2 gets two states of tune, with the lower-specced model rated at 174 hp and the higher one rated at 201 hp—both delivering a similar century sprint time of 7.9 seconds.
From the single image published by BYD, the EU-spec Atto 2 DM-i PHEV does carry some slight design changes over the BEV model, with the most notable being the larger front grille to improve cooling and airflow to its front-mounted engine. There’s also the new DM-i PHEV badging at the rear, plus a new Midnight Blue exterior colour option that will be exclusive for the PHEV model.
As mentioned earlier, the upcoming BYD Atto 2 DM-i PHEV will be making its European debut later in 2026, with the UK market also included in the automaker’s plan. As of now, there’s no news on whether this subcompact PHEV crossover would ever arrive in other overseas markets, including Malaysia. But given there’s already an RHD version confirmed, we’d reckon the chances are definitely not zero.
