- Rapid Rail Breakdowns Drop Sharply This Year - Loke

Rapid Rail has seen a big drop in disruptions this year, with just 25 incidents reported as of Aug, down from 71 in 2024 and 118 in 2023.
Transport Minister Anthony Loke said the improvement comes from smarter, proactive maintenance.
“Rapid Rail now uses predictive systems and smart sensors to spot potential failures before they happen,” he said, adding that trains can now travel an average of 550,000 km before a fault occurs, up from 330,300 km last year.

A System Analytics Centre monitors trains and infrastructure in real-time, while long-term agreements with equipment suppliers ensure spare parts and technical support are ready when needed.
Loke also highlighted learning from top international operators like SMRT Singapore, MTR Hong Kong, and TRTC Taipei, giving local engineers access to best practices and joint training.

“Even one disruption inconveniences thousands, so we will keep pushing for more reliable LRT, MRT, and monorail services,” he added.
