BUDI95 Saves Govt RM800 Million, Benefits Malaysians Through Cash Contributions - PMX
The government has successfully saved RM800 million through the BUDI MADANI RON95 (BUDI95) programme since it started on Sept 30, announced Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim.
Anwar, who also serves as Finance Minister, explained that the savings came from targeting fuel subsidies more effectively. Instead of being available to everyone including over 3.5 million foreigners and fuel smugglers, the subsidy is now exclusively for Malaysian citizens.
“Every ringgit saved is returned to the people through cash contributions like STR and SARA, as well as funding upgrades to clinics, hospitals, roads, and other infrastructure,” he said in a Facebook post. Targeting fuel subsidies had been discussed by previous governments for more than 20 years, but it took the MADANI Government’s political will to finally make it happen.
Under BUDI95, all Malaysians aged 16 and above with an active driving license can purchase subsidized RON95 up to 300 litres per month at RM1.99 per litre, compared to RM2.60 per litre without the subsidy.

The programme not only ensures fuel assistance reaches the right people, but also helps curb smuggling and misuse, while putting savings back into improving services and infrastructure that benefit everyone.
