GWM Malaysia has achieved a major milestone as the first batch of locally assembled (CKD) GWM WEY G9 rolls out from the second EP Manufacturing Bhd (EPMB) plant at Kawasan Perindustrian HICOM Pegoh in Melaka.
Melaka Chief Minister Datuk Seri Utama Ab Rauf Yusoh witnessed the event alongside senior representatives from both companies.

The WEY G9 is now the first premium Chinese New Energy MPV to be locally assembled in Malaysia. With production underway, the model is set for its market debut in the coming weeks or by early 2026.
This roll-out comes as EPMB activates Phase 2 of its Melaka facility, boosting annual production capacity from 6,000 to 30,000 units and accelerating its move from a Tier-1 components supplier to a full-fledged assembly partner for global car brands. Since Phase 1 began in late 2023, more than 6,000 units of the GWM H6 HEV have already been built locally.

GWM says the start of WEY G9 production signals strong confidence in Malaysia’s ability to support advanced automotive manufacturing, localisation and future export potential.
COO Roslan Abdullah described the rollout as the meeting point of global engineering and Malaysian workmanship, while Managing Director Mr. Cui Anqi called it an important step in GWM’s plan to anchor its ASEAN expansion in Malaysia.

Built on GWM’s luxury New Energy platform, the WEY G9 will introduce the brand’s Hybrid Intelligent 4WD (Hi4) system to the Malaysian premium MPV segment, bringing refined comfort, intelligent safety and smooth performance.
Bookings are now open nationwide, with an expected price of below RM300,000.

With CKD operations now underway, preparations for the model’s official launch are progressing. EPMB is also moving toward Phase 3 of its Melaka plant, scheduled for completion by the end of Q3 2026.
The new phase, built on an adjoining eight-acre plot will add in-house body painting, deepen localisation and strengthen Melaka’s growing automotive manufacturing ecosystem.
These developments further lock in Malaysia’s role within GWM’s long-term regional roadmap, with more updates to follow.
