- Gemas-JB Electrified Train Cuts KL-Johor Travel To 4 Hours
Gemas-Johor Bahru electrified double-track rail line is officially up and running. This new line completes the north-south ETS network, meaning you can now travel from the top to the bottom of Peninsular Malaysia faster and more comfortably than ever.
The project, built by SIPP Rail and YTL Construction (SIPP-YTL), covers 11 stations along the route including Segamat, Genuang, Labis, Bekok, Paloh, Kluang, Mengkibol, Renggam, Layang-Layang, Kulai, and JB Sentral.

The operational launch at Kempas Baru Station was officiated by the Regent of Johor, Tunku Mahkota Ismail Sultan Ibrahim, in the presence of Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim, Transport Minister Anthony Loke Siew Fook, and Johor Menteri Besar Datuk Onn Hafiz Ghazi.
"Travel between KL Sentral and JB Sentral now takes just 4 hours and 20 minutes, down from seven hours, with trains cruising at up to 140 km/h," Anthony Loke said, noting that collaboration between the ministry, RAC, KTMB, and SIPP-YTL was key to making this happen.

Prime Minister Anwar praised the line as a world-class infrastructure project that reflects the government’s commitment under the Madani agenda.
"This initiative reflects the steadfast commitment of the Madani government to strengthening a modern, advanced and high-quality public transport system, one that delivers tangible benefits to the rakyat, in line with the aspirations of the 13th Malaysia Plan," he said.
SIPP-YTL’s managing director, Datuk Seri Yeoh Seok Hong, said the construction demanded high-precision engineering, from bridges to depots and stations, all built to world-class standards.

"The line doesn’t just make travel faster but it also supports economic growth, social mobility, and sustainable development in southern Malaysia," he stressed.
