Kota Bharu’s BAS.MY bus service is making waves, recording 84,000 passengers per month in Q4 2025, nearly double the numbers before its launch. Transport Minister Anthony Loke said the uptake proves that Kelantan residents are embracing a more systematic, user-friendly public transport system.

Launched under the Stage Bus Services Transformation (SBST) program, BAS.MY Kota Bharu covers 16 routes across 11 local authorities, including Kota Bharu, Bachok, Gua Musang, Ketereh, Kuala Krai, Machang, Pasir Mas, Pasir Puteh, Tanah Merah, Tumpat, and Jeli.

The fleet consists of 64 buses, including 8 electric midi buses, 24 low-floor mini buses, and 32 conventional mini buses, all equipped with air conditioning, GPS, electronic ticketing, and CCTV to ensure passenger comfort and safety.

BAS.MY also offers cashless fare payments via debit/credit cards or QR-based e-wallets, plus a 30-day unlimited travel card for RM30. Seniors, students, and people with disabilities enjoy free rides under the national public transport concession scheme.

"Using local operators and drivers including female drivers creates jobs and boosts the local economy, while the SBST payment model ensures operators are paid based on routes and distance, not just passenger numbers

"The federal government has committed RM109.3 million over five years for Kota Bharu’s service and over RM200 million nationwide for BAS.MY operations," Loke said.

BAS.MY services are now available across almost all Malaysian states, with Kuala Lumpur, Selangor, and Penang still under Rapid KL, and other cities in Sabah, Pahang, and Sarawak slated for phased launches.
