- Launched: 2026 Toyota Vios HEV – 2 Variants, From RM103,900
UMW Toyota Motor has officially launched the 2026 Toyota Vios HEV range locally today, and it features two variants on offer including a sporty GR Sport guise.

Teased earlier this month with early orders also opened, the 2026 Toyota Vios HEV has officially launched in Malaysia earlier today. As a recap, this marks the first time that this popular Toyota B-segment sedan nameplate - known as the Yaris Ativ HEV in Thailand - gets electrified.
Locally assembled (CKD) at the UMW Toyota Motor (UMWT) assembly line in Bukit Raja, Shah Alam, there are two variants are on offer – a ‘standard’ Vios 1.5 HEV followed by a sporty new Vios 1.5 HEV GR Sport guise serving as the nameplate’s new range-topper.
Slotting above the existing Vios 1.5G and 1.5E variants, both new HEV guises share the same electrified heart, but a slew of variant-specific exterior and interior enhancements, as well as a sportier chassis tune in the GR Sport variant, sets both apart.

Locally assembled (CKD), the Vios 1.5 HEV guise (top) is tagged at RM103,900, whereas the new Vios 1.5 HEV GR Sport range-topper (above) commands a higher RM109,900 figure.

We’ll dive straight into prices and warranties first. Naturally, added electrification does come at a slight premium. Things start from RM103,900 for the Vios 1.5 HEV guise, whereas the sporty new Vios 1.5 HEV GR Sport tops off the range at RM109,900.
Included in both prices is a 5-year, unlimited mileage base vehicle warranty, followed by a separate 8-year, unlimited mileage hybrid battery and component warranty. Overall, Toyota has finally charged the Vios up to battle against the rivalling Honda City Hybrid.

Under the hood, both variants share the same electrified 1.5-litre 4-cyl petrol mill augmented by an e-motor and compact battery pack, and it's paired with a dedicated E-CVT automatic box too.

Mechanically, both variants share a 1.5-litre 4-cyl naturally aspirated 4-cyl petrol mill augmented by an e-motor plus a compact 4.3 Ahr lithium-ion battery pack – this is shared with the lifted Yaris Cross HEV crossover that’s also arriving in Malaysia later this year.
Paired with a dedicated E-CVT automatic box, the combustion (ICE) half of the package alone is rated at 91 PS (89 hp) and 121 Nm, whilst the electrified half brings up to 80 PS (78 hp) and 141 Nm into the mix. Combined, there’s 111 PS (109 hp) available, marking a 5% bump from the non-HEV variants’s mill.
Critically, Toyota also touts a highly frugal 3.6 litres/100 KM (27.8 km/litre) NEDC-rated fuel economy average. In turn, this marks a 31% improvement versus what the non-HEV variants sips on average.

The Vios 1.5 sees its innards don a two-tone black and brown leather upholstery scheme. Shared across both is the upgraded 10.1-inch and HEV-specific 7-inch digital instrument panel.

Typically, the GR Sport guise sees its innards don a black leather upholstery plus added GR Sport badges in the headrests and steering wheel.

Next, the Vios HEV variants are also better equipped on board. Key shared amenities amongst include their adoption of an upgraded and larger the 10.1-inch infotainment touchscreen offering Apple CarPlay and Android Auto connectivity, keyless ignition, and more.
Those seeking a more thrilling drive will be glad to note that the Vios 1.5 HEV GR Sport benefits with an exclusive sport-tuned suspension setup paired with sport-calibrated electric power steering (EPS) suite too.
Said new GR Sport variant also typically gains exclusive GR Sport-badged seats and steering wheels, the former wrapped in black leather upholstery. With its exterior, it gets a sporty full aerokit, aggressive front and rear bumpers, and 17-inch GR Sport wheels.

In GR Sport guise, the Vios HEV sees its stance beefed up thanks to angrier-looking front and rear bumpers, a full aerokit added, not forgetting the dual-tone 17-inch GR Sport wheels its rolls on.

Apart from the additions we’ve highlighted, there are no major changes to report. This also means that both Vios HEV variants come laden with the Toyota Safety Sense (TSS) Advanced Driver Assistance System (ADAS) suite as standard too.
