- Malaysia-made Jaecoo J7 Now Exported To Neighbouring Brunei
Chery Corporate Malaysia (Chery) execs with the Jaecoo J7 and J7 PHEV models during a small ceremony to marks the start of exports to Brunei.

Chery Corporate Malaysia (Chery) has expanded its local assembly (CKD) export efforts. In a press release issued earlier today, the firm revealed that it has begun exporting both the Jaecoo J7 and J7 PHEV models made in its Shah Alam plant to neighbouring Brunei.
“The export market is a key pillar for our long-term growth strategy in the ASEAN region. We are thrilled to continue this growth momentum of expanding our brand reach to more markets,” expressed Chery Corporate Malaysia Executive Vice President Men Lin Bo.
After Vietnam, Brunei now becomes the second ASEAN market to see Malaysia-made Jaecoo J7 and J7 PHEV models being exported to.

Said nation, which neighbours both Sabah and Sarawak states in East Malaysia, stands as the second South East Asian (ASEAN) export market for the Chinese automaker’s Jaecoo premium vehicles sub-brand – Vietnam was the first back in Feb 2025.
More specifically, it’s the Jaecoo J7 2WD guise that's being shipped by Chery across the South China Sea to said market - alongside its electrified J7 PHEV (plug-in hybrid) twin. Both see their respective specifications mirror what the firm offers the Malaysian market with.

For buyers in Brunei, they will soon be able to choose between the Jaecoo J7 2WD and J7 PHEV that mirrors the Malaysia market version.

“Following the start of exports to Vietnam in February 2025, Brunei’s proximity and market potential make it a logical and important next step,” remarked Cheng Nam Weng, Vice President of Chery Corporate Malaysia, via the press release noted.
“This initial shipment of the JAECOO J7 allows us to gauge market reception and lay a solid foundation in Brunei,” adds Cheng further. The effort also aligns with Chery’s medium-term export strategy that prioritises sustainable growth.
Chery is poised to continue expanding its regional foothold with Malaysia acting a springboard to which.

Vietnam and Brunei were both targeted for export when Chery first established its Shah Alam CKD plant back in June 2024. The firm adds that thanks to its strong foothold in Malaysia, it will now implement the strategy noted and expand its regional footprint.
Both Men and Cheng were present recently for a small ceremony held at the plant to mark the start of export shipments for both the Jaecoo J7 and J7 PHEV models to Brunei.
