Upcoming Jaecoo J7 PHEV Rolls Out Of Shah Alam CKD Plant
Jaecoo Malaysia revealed today that local assembly (CKD) for its third new metal, the Jaecoo J7 PHEV, has commenced at its Shah Alam plant. The model is set to debut later this month.
The third new metal from Jaecoo Malaysia, the Jaecoo J7 PHEV premium SUV, is set for launch very soon – perhaps by end of this month. Ahead of which, the firm announced today that local assembly (CKD) for said model has commenced at its Shah Alam assembly plant.
“We believe the Jaecoo J7 PHEV fits in perfectly with the market’s appetite for an alternative between the Internal Combustion Engine (ICE) and Electric Vehicle (EV) segments, providing the best of both worlds with its superior Super Hybrid System, fondly known as SHS,” expressed Jaecoo Malaysia vice president Emily Lek.
The J7 PHEV is being produced locally at the same plant where the regular J7 model, as well as the Omoda C9, are locally assembled by the firm too.
Whilst the firm skirted away from officially announcing the model’s official launch date, registration of interest (ROI) for the electrified J7 variant has opened since Oct 2024. Adding to which, the brand’s latest web campaign also confirmed a Feb 2025 arrival window, thus suggesting a launch perhaps by end of this month.
As a refresher, the J7 PHEV was previewed locally back in Oct 2024. Whilst identical in appearance to the brand’s J7 model that’s seen over 7,000 units delivered since launch, this new addition brings a unique new electrified twist thanks to its SHS plug-in hybrid (PHEV) powertrain packaged mentioned.
Jaecoo J7 PHEV from its local preview back in Oct 2024. Whilst similar visually to the regular J7, the PHEV powertrain is what truly sets this variant apart.
Essentially, the SHS powertrain suite consists of a 1.5-litre 4-cyl TGDi Dedicated Hybrid Engine (DHE) boasting a 44.5% thermal efficiency rating, a front-mounted e-motor, an 18.3 kWh battery pack, as well as a Dedicated Hybrid Transmission (DHT). Altogether, combined outputs read at 347 PS and 525 NM.
Critically, the setup also promises a total combined maximum range of up to 1,300 KM (NEDC) – as proven when we sampled the J7 PHEV in China last Oct. Adding to which too is the battery pack’s claimed 106 KM electric-only range, added 40 kW DC charging ability allowing 30-80% re-charges in 20 minutes, as well as a built-in V2L function rated at 3.3 KW.
We've already sampled the Jaecoo J7 PHEV prior in a cross-country hypermiling challenge across China where we charted up a maximum range of up to 1,300 KM on a single fill-up and charge.
As for price, an estimated figure of RM170,000 was mooted, thus putting this electrified variant at a slight premium over the regular J7 model. For reference, the latter commands RM138,800 in base 2WD guise, and RM148,800 in higher-end AWD guise.
We will have more details, notable surrounding warranty and after-sales packages, once the model officially launches later this month.
