Ho Wah Genting Bhd has entered into a Memorandum Of Understanding (MOU) with Xiamen Chief Electric Vehicle Co Ltd to explore the potential of manufactUring electric vehicles (EV) in Malaysia.

The MOU was held on March 22, 2021. Xiamen Chief Electric Vehicle was established in 2000, and it has produced EV, spare parts for electric tour buses, electric golf buggies and many more.

In a separate statement, Ho Wah Genting has announced their plan to introduce Seiyong Motor's first pure EV, the Seiyong S1 to Malaysia.

Launched in December 2019, the Seiyong S1 or also known as the Little Bee is capable of traveling up to 302km.

It is powered by a 31.9 kWh lithium battery, and it can reach a top speed of more than 110 km/h.

According to the chinese specification, some of the equipment includes 15-inch wheels, and 175/60 profile tyres, head-up display, eight-inch touchscreen with voice recognition (Mandarin only) and a single-zone auto climate system and many more.

In China, the S1 is priced at 70,000 chinese yuan to 90,000 yuan (approximately RM44,300 to RM57,000), depending on the variant.

CEO Datuk Aarom Lim said "The electric vehicle industry is still a growing industry and we firmly believe that the Seiyong S1 is able to push the electric vehicle industry in Malaysia into a brighter future. The innovative development strategy of Seiyong Motor has demonstrated that it has a strong market expansion plan and its core competitiveness is one of their factors to success. In the next 3-5 years, we believe that Seiyong Motor will eventually be a key player in the global electric vehicle industry with Seiyong S1.”

Yesterday, HWG also had an MOU with AiTou Venture Capital to bring in IT Technology and Investment for the EV Project.

The collaboration with AiTou will allow HWGB to tap into their expertise in financial resources planning, IT technology expertise and the formulation of strategies of introducing electric vehicles in Malaysia and subsequently HWGB shall procure the transfer of 5 percent of the issued shares on HWGB EV to AiTou.

Well it seems that Ho Wah Genting is very serious in becoming a key player for the country's EV industry. Feel free to leave a comment below on your thoughts about the car!
