Stricter Inspections Instilled at Roadblocks

All officers and policemen assigned to the  roadblocks (SJRs) nationwide were instructed to conduct inspections more seriously and not just wave.

Following this, the Royal Malaysian Police (PDRM) received a complaint that officers at SJR took lightly their responsibilities when conducting inspections in monitoring inter-state movements without permission.

The Inspector -General of Police, Tan Sri Abdul Hamid Bador said he has warned all State Inspectors of Police to ensure that every officer and personnel assigned to the SJR carries out their inspections more seriously.

"Bukit Aman will take action against any State Police Chief who is found to have failed to control officers and members at SJR when they do not conduct inspections and just allow every vehicle to pass through.”

"Instructions have been issued, including in Sabah and Sarawak, to tighten controls at each SJR to the maximum level by conducting more stringent vehicle inspections to prevent any interstate crossing attempts, including back lanes by the public," he said.

Abdul Hamid mentioned, based on his observation, there were a few members in the field sitting in a rest tent in the SJR allowing vehicles to pass through just by waving their hands without taking the current situation seriously.

He said he was not shy and embarrassed to reveal the weakness although he appreciated the hard work of most PDRM personnel in the field with the help of the Malaysian Armed Forces (ATM), the Malaysian Volunteer Department (RELA) and the Civil Defense Force (APM).

“Break time to perform prayers is allowed in rotation, while some SJR staff in a total of 10 people on duty can rest, while the rest supervise the inspection.”

"During peak hours and congestion, everyone needs to come down to control in order to speed up the process of inspection and traffic control to avoid traffic congestion," he said.

"I do not want the PDRM to be blamed and do not want to see inter-state clusters like before. I received information that Sabah and Sarawak is very lenient (SJR) and immediate action must be taken to tighten the level of control," he said.

The traffic route at the Sungai Besi Toll Plaza Kuala Lumpur heading to the city center today was severely congested due to strict checks by police at the Road Blockade (SJR).

Strict inspections were carried out after receiving instructions from the Inspector -General of Police who wanted all members to tighten controls at SJR to detect any inter-state crossing attempts.

It was found that the congestion started at 9.30 am when the traffic was moving slowly until there was a small accident because the drivers were crowded and could not wait to enter the lanes before and after the toll plaza.
