Toyota Land Cruiser Is The First Refrigerated Vehicles For Covid-19 Approved By WHO
The first refrigerated vehicle to transport the Covid-19 vaccines is a Toyota Land Cruiser 78.
Toyota Tsusho Corporation, together with Toyota Motor Corporation and B Medical Systems S.à r.l. has introduced the refrigerated vehicle to transport the vaccines.

Powering the Land Cruiser 78 is a 4.5-liter turbodiesel engine, it has the low-range four-wheel-drive system, solid axles front and rear, and accessories dating back to the 1980s.
However, it is an ideal transporter around the world, thanks to the easy availability of parts.

Equipped with the B Medical Systems’ CF850 vaccine refrigerator. It has a storage capacity of 396-litres, and is able to keep 400 vaccine packages.
The refrigerator can be operated for approximately 16 hours without a power supply. It can be charged by the vehicle while driving and from an external power source when it's parked.
This is the first refrigerated vehicle for vaccines that has obtained Performance, Quality and Safety (PQS) prequalification that was set by the World Health Organization (“WHO”).

Additionally, this refrigerated vehicle for vaccines can be used under the international framework Covid-19 Vaccines Global Access (COVAX).
Vaccination is an effective measure against infectious diseases. Vaccines for infants required to be stored at 2 to 8 degree celsius. It cannot be used if not stored under proper temperature management.
Medical devices and equipment have obtained PQS prequalification to meet the equipment selection standards of agencies related to the United Nations and leading NGOs and charity organizations. It is easier to receive support for transportation equipment procurement as the qualification standard and effective use of vaccines can be expected.
Regarding this project, these three companies have joined forces with the same goal in mind which they aim to deliver safety and security for the refrigerated vehicle for vaccines.
