Decked Out In Manthey Performance Kit, The Porsche 911 GT2 RS Breaks A New Lap Record

Suited up by Manthey-Racing, on June 14, 2021, the 911 GT2 RS broke a new lap record for Porsche’s road-legal production models on the 20.8 km Nürburgring Nordschleife circuit.
Porsche’s vice president for model lines 911 and 718 Frank-Steffen Walliser said, “Our GT customers often use their cars on circuit, such as on track days, so the engineers at Manthey and Porsche have together developed a perfectly tuned package that allows the 911 GT2 RS to deliver even higher performance."
The Manthey Performance Kit brandished by the 911 GT2 RS was developed in a close alliance between Porsche's Weissach engineers and Manthey’s Nordschleife specialists.
Manthey-Racing GmbH’s managing director Nicolas Raeder uttered, “We are proud that Lars Kern was able to improve the lap time of the 911 GT2 RS in this way thanks to the Performance Kit, developed together with Porsche and optimised in many areas.”
With Porsche development driver Lars Kern at the wheel, the 700 PS (515 kW) 911 GT2 RS recorded the best time of 6:43.300 minutes, beating the existing lap of 6:48.047 minutes by 4.747 seconds.
The 911 GT2 RS sped through the asphalt, rolling on road-legal Michelin Pilot Sport Cup 2 R tyres while hitting an average speed of 185.87 km/h.
Kern commented, “The 911 GT2 RS sticks to the track like glue with the Manthey Performance Kit. It feels as if you’re in a racing car, especially on faster corners. It is truly breath-taking how the car puts its 700 PS down and how incredibly well it brakes while always remaining easy to control.”
To break it down, the Manthey Performance Kit from Porsche Tequipment consists of chassis, aerodynamic and brake components, and the Weissach Package of light magnesium alloy wheels.
“Individual components of the Performance Kit are precisely matched to one another. They only become fully effective when they are all installed together. As a result, the kit is only available at the moment as a whole package. Individual offerings are currently being evaluated,” remarked Porsche AG’s vice president of individualisation and classic Alexander Fabig.
Said aerodynamic components feature flaps on the front spoiler, which increases the downforce on the front axle in combination with a carbon underbody and additional air guide elements in the area of the front wheels.
Case in point, the downforce on the front axle increases from 49 kg to 70 kg at 200 km/h and the rear axle from 93 kg to 200 kg at the same speed.
This is also made possible due to a new rear spoiler, a modified diffuser and a set of aero discs on the rear wheels.
Apart from that, it also features a track-optimised coil-over suspension with front shock absorbers that can be adjusted to three different settings and four different settings on the rear.
Adding to the performance, the special racing brake pads for the PCCB ceramic brake system helps in reducing fade while improving responsiveness and control precision.
Furthermore, paired with steel-encased brake lines, it ensures the 911 GT2 RS with even more direct pedal feedback.
As for the magnesium wheels, the Weissach Package features a set of 20-inch diameter at the front and a set of 21-inch at the rear that offers an 11.4 kg weight saving.
For added finesse, the set of wheels has been made available in Brilliant Silver, Black, Aurum, White Gold Metallic and Platinum hues.
“With these newly developed parts, we have made an extremely good car even better. The 911 GT2 RS with Manthey Performance Kit is perfectly tailored to the needs of those customers who like to take their cars on track, especially the Nürburgring Nordschleife. This 6:43.330 time for the whole lap is equivalent to 6:38.835 for the old shorter variant, so it makes a real statement,” concluded GT Cars vice president Andreas Preuninger.
Rounding it up, the Manthey Performance Kit by Porsche Tequipment for the 911 GT2 RS has been made available from Porsche Centres for customers in Europe with other markets to follow in time.
