Continuing Its Motorsports Legacy, Lotus Unleashes The Emira GT4 Race Car
Ever since its birth into the auto world over 70 years ago, Lotus has always been a familiar name in the motorsports scene, and the legacy continues with the new Lotus Emira GT4 race car.
Decked out in a GT4 competition-spec, hence the name, the recently unleashed Emira GT4 race car project was developed in collaboration with RML Group (Ray Mallock Ltd.).
Lurking in the chassis of this mid-engine racer is a 3.5-litre Toyota 2GR-FE V6 mill with pressures boosted via a Harrop TVS1900 supercharger kit.
Capped at 400 hp, the mill’s output uses a Balance of Performance (BOP) formula by FIA to endorse a competitive field that plays on the driver’s skills and strategy instead of machinery.
Completing the powertrain, the beast’s heart is mated to a 6-speed xTrac racing transmission that utilises a paddle-shifting system.
Aiding the driving experience, the driver can view all vital dash information via a Motec-supplied hardware with data-logging and bespoke motorsport wiring visuals.
In terms of stopping power, the Emira incorporates a motorsport-specific ABS from Bosch, which uses Alcon callipers and brake discs.
Besides that, additional aerodynamic upgrades on the exterior include a large adjustable rear wing and a front splitter.
Also, extensive use of advanced composite materials on the exterior and interior ensures the Emira GT4 with a healthy starting weight of 1,260 kg.
The Lotus Emira GT4 is expected to race around the world in 2022, and an official launch of the beast will take place later this year at an event on the Hethel test track.
All in all, Lotus plans to increase production from 2023 in line with global demand and supply, as the return of motorsport is a key pillar of the company’s transformation.
