The Perodua Ativa was brought together with priorities that lay in the aspect of safety. The vehicle comes with a set of very generous safety features, both in the active and passive categories.

One of the noteworthy elements of the Ativa is the Perodua Smart Drive Assist that includes Advanced Safety Assist, driving Assist, parking assist, and headlamp assist.

The Advanced Safety Assist 3.0 is a first for the company and comes as standard for the model. Some of the systems available are pre-collision warning where the driver will receive alerts when risk of frontal collision is detected. This feature is also equipped with a two-wheeled vehicle detection.

Not only that, this pack also comes with pre-collision braking or automatic emergency braking where it detects that there was no driver input on the brakes post pre-collision warning and will apply the secondary brakes to bring the vehicle to a complete stop.

Also included is the front departure alert where the driver is alerted when the front vehicle has moved. The pedal mis-operation control feature in the pack will help the driver avoid accidentally stepping on the wrong pedal when parking the vehicle.

As for the level 2 autonomous driving assistance, it consists of five systems that include lane departure warning that gives the driver a warning when the car moves out of the lane and the lane departure prevention feature that aids the driver in moving back into the lane.

Next is the lane keep control which helps to guide the driver to keep the driver at a safe distance within a marked lane on the freeways. There is also a blind spot monitor that detects vehicles in the blind spot areas and provides alerts to the driver. Not forgetting the adaptive cruise control feature that allows the driver to maintain the vehicle’s accelerator at a fixed speed and take their foot off the pedal.

Some of the parking assist features in the Ativa include a reverse sensor only for the X variant, added front sensors and a reverse camera for the H variant, and a Rear Cross Traffic Alert System for the AV variant that gives the driver a bigger advantage when reversing out of parking spaces.

As for headlamp assist, it was branched out into two features which are the Auto High Beam (AHB) and Adaptive Driving Beam (ADB). AHB is available for the base model and the ADB is available for the remaining higher trim models.

The LED matrix headlights in the Ativa function by a combination of LEDs and mirrors along with a collection of cameras and sensors. The sensors and cameras will scan the road ahead to detect oncoming vehicles as well as changes in road conditions. Each headlight consists of 9 LEDs that creates a divided matrix that reacts according to the data collected and transmitted by the sensors and cameras. This feature will allow the vehicle to detect vehicles in oncoming traffic and turn off individual LEDs to prevent glaring with advanced software and sensors.

Following that, passive safety features in the SUV include six airbags placed in the driver, front passenger, side and curtain of the vehicle. Also included is Anti Lock Braking System (ABS) with Electronic Brake-force Distribution (EBD) and brake assist (BA) which is where the ABS helps avoid the skidding of wheels in the event of heavy braking.

After that is vehicle stability control which helps to reduce under and oversteering, especially in tight corners with higher speed. The emergency stop signal will activate the hazard lights during sudden breaks which will help warn other drivers. A hill hold assist feature will also be available to prevent the Ativa from rolling backwards on an incline when the driver releases the break.

Perodua Malaysia also announced that safety features in the Ativa will set the benchmark for all future models of the company.
