Lexus Debuts The NX PHEV OFFROAD Concept And ROV Concept
The "NX PHEV OFFROAD Concept" and "ROV Concept" were unveiled for the first time during the Tokyo Auto Salon 2022, which runs from January 14 (Fri.) through January 16 (Sun.) 2022 at Makuhari Messe (Chiba City).
The two concept vehicles on show represent Lexus' attempts to achieve a carbon-neutral society, increase customer choices, encourage customers to promote varied and expanding lives and provide new values that exceed expectations.
The NX PHEV OFFROAD Concept is based on Lexus' first PHEV vehicle, the NX 450h+, which will be on sale in November 2021. The NX has a smooth driving experience as well as excellent environmental efficiency that helps to cut CO2 emissions. With its raised platform, off-road running all-terrain large diameter tyres, and finely completed bespoke bronze and matte black paint scheme, the body stimulates an adventurous lifestyle.
It is measured by; Length 4,660mm× Width 1,865mm× Height 1,675mm with the powertrain of 2.5 litres In-line 4-cylinder Plug-in Hybrid System [AWD].
It runs on a 5Nm front motor, 134 kW max output and 270Nm max torque. The drivetrain is E-Four (Electronically controlled all-wheel-drive system)
The NX PHEV OFFROAD is built with smoked door mirror visors, window/belt mouldings, Matt black painted door handles and 265/65R17 All-terrane tires & 17×7J wheels on the side, whereas the rear features a smoked vehicle name badge Lexus logo. Getting to the roof, you can see the Matte black painted roof rails and the eMatt black painted carrier basket.
The ROV Concept, with its slim design, goes beyond traditional on and off-road driving and aspires to give a driving experience in nature, unlike any other passenger vehicle. It is also the first Lexus vehicle to use a hydrogen engine, making it ecologically sustainable while still giving stimulation and thrill from an engine-powered vehicle's sound and vibrations.
As for the ROV, the 1.0-litre hydrogen engine stores compressed hydrogen in a high-pressure tank and precisely injects hydrogen via direct injectors. The result is an environmentally friendly engine that produces high response torque from the fast-burning hydrogen, as well as vibrations unique to engine-powered vehicles for an exhilarating driving experience.
On the outside, it comes equipped with a protection/cage, which is suitable for any wilderness environment and off-road tires for driving on muddy roads. It also Utilizes a front grill that protects passengers while expressing the design language of the next-generation Lexus. The front fenders prevent stones and mud from splashing upwards.
The suspension cover that connects to the rear hydrogen fuel tank not only protects functional components but also references the durability inherited from Lexus SUV. The L-shaped front headlamps/ rear combination lamps and the rear "LEXUS" logo adopted from the new NX showcase the design language of the next-generation Lexus.
Lexus will also use its aerodynamic, cooling, and weight-reduction technology and know-how from arduous air races to develop ever-better automobiles to help the world become carbon-neutral.
