BYD’s Contender For The Chinese SUV Market, The Electrifyingly Sleek TANG DM-p
![]()
BYD, the Chinese automaker has given a preview of its flagship SUV, the TANG DM-p, prior to its pre-sale launch event happening this June 9.
Right off the bat, the TANG DM-p is positioned as a medium-sized SUV, standing at 4,870 mm long, 1,950 mm wide, 1,725 mm tall and a wheelbase spanning 2,820 mm.
Weighing in at 2,150 kg, it underpins a 1.5T engine with a 160-kW front motor and a 200-kW rear motor, allowing it to have a four-wheel drive system.
The 0 to 100 km/h acceleration time is said to be at 4.3 seconds, and its pure electric cruising range is up to 215 km.

Aesthetic-wise, the new Tang DM-p adopts the automaker’s latest family-style design cues, exuding a somewhat imposing look.
Looking at the front, it sports a sharp and angular-looking set of headlights, paired to a large air intake grille. The grille features a dot matrix scale shape on the inside.
Apart from that, to jazz it up even more, it adds chrome-plated decorative strips to the grille surrounds and front region.
Interior-wise, its design is quite simple with a double-combination colour layout, providing great texture and a sense of unity.

Tech-wise, the Tang DM-p is equipped with an LCD dash, a large suspended central control panel full of scientific and technological sense, and a twin-spoke multifunction steering wheel.
Last but not least, the cabin adopts a six-seat layout and the second row comes with electrically-adjusted independent seats to further enhance comfort.
All in all, the BYD Tang DM-p can be considered as a strong contender in the Chinese SUV market with its overall sleek look and electric powertrain.
