Making A Comeback To Prototype Motorsport, BMW Presents Its Track-Stunner, The M Hybrid V8

Unveiled for the 2023 endurance car racing season, the best-looking build the German brand has ever made, BMW presents its new prototype race car, the M Hybrid V8.
The M Hybrid V8 is built in collaboration with Dallara. Its purpose is to compete in the new GTP class of the IMSA series, which is akin to the 24 Hours of Daytona and the 12 Hours of Sebring.

Plus, it’s also qualified to compete in the World Endurance Championship, which boasts the most famous sports car race of them all, the 24 Hours of Le Mans.
Living up to its moniker, the track beast harbours in its chassis a monstrous V8 petrol engine that is paired to a hybrid system.

Its powertrain has been tuned to produce a total output of 500 kW, although that may change based on how regulators want to balance performance between competitors.
Regardless, that’s not the focal point of its entire build, as its striking aerodynamic silhouette is the real attraction.

Gandering at it, the M Hybrid V8 incorporates BMW’s signature kidney grille into a lithe, low-slung prototype sports car design.
Then, in terms of the livery, it adopts elements of racing camo and liveries raced by the German brand throughout its long history of motorsports in North America.

Notably, BMW hasn’t even been active in prototype sports car racing for some time. As the matter of fact, their last big victory was back in 1999, when the BMW V12 LMR won Le Mans.
That said, its time on the track is something to look out for as the battle in endurance racing is heating up, with BMW being the latest big automaker to throw in their hat the motorsport arena.

Other brands getting involved include Acura, Cadillac, Ferrari and Porsche, of which the latter is also making moves to enter Formula 1.
