Mercedes’ Global Recall Over Brake Failure, ML And GL SUVs, And The R-Class Affected
Due to possible brake failure in three models, Mercedes-Benz has issued an immediate global recall for almost one million cars.
As such, the German automaker has advised owners of the affected vehicles to not drive their car until further inspection on said matter is done.
The three affected models being recalled are the ones sold between 2004 and 2015, and they make up about 993,407 cars globally, including 70,000 in Germany.
However, for the United Kingdom, it is not known exactly how many cars are affected, but all three models were sold there.
Said models are the ML and GL SUVs, and the R-Class people carrier. Mercedes is claiming these models’ brake booster could be suffering from ‘advanced corrosion’.
At which, in extreme circumstances, the fault could limit the effectiveness of the brakes and lead to complete failure.
Mercedes-Benz said, “The function of the brake booster could be affected by advanced corrosion in the joint area of the housing. It might be possible for a particularly strong or hard braking maneuver to cause mechanical damage to the brake booster. In such a very rare case, it would not be possible to decelerate the vehicle via the service brake. Thus, the risk of a crash or injury would be increased.”
This recall will involve Mercedes engineers checking any potentially affected vehicle and replacing parts free of charge where necessary.
That said, the company will reach out to all the owners affected, or as an alternative, owners can check on this particular matter for themselves using the Mercedes’ online recall checking service.
