Maruti Suzuki Jimny 5-Door To Debut In 2023

One of the most recognisable SUVs in the world, the Suzuki Jimny is renowned for being among the best affordable off-road cars on the market right now. A new Jimny with a lengthy wheelbase is currently being developed by the Japanese automaker, and it will likely debut at the 2023 Auto Show.

Recent spy photos from testing in Europe show a test mule for the future Suzuki Jimny 5-door. According to rumours, Maruti Suzuki constructed the vehicle in India before shipping it to another country for testing.

It has been rumoured that India will produce the 5-door Jimny for both domestic and international markets. Information regarding the SUV has already surfaced online thanks to reports from Japan. The next 5-door Jimny will measure 3,850mm in length and feature a 2,550mm wheelbase. The length and wheelbase will each expand by 300mm. Minor changes will also be made to the SUV's appearance.

The 210mm ground clearance will not alter. The 5-door Jimny is anticipated to weigh 1,190 kg, which is at least 100 kg more than the existing 3-door variant (kerb weight). The 1.5L NA petrol K15B engine, with a maximum output of 103 PS, is what powers the 3-door model. Both a 5-speed manual and a 4-speed torque-converter automatic transmission with a part-time 4WD system are available as transmission choices.

According to sources, the brand's new K15C engine, a 1.5L NA petrol engine with a mild-hybrid system also available, is slated to power the 5-door variant. The automatic transmission will be a brand-new 6-speed torque-converter unit, while the 5-speed manual transmission option will remain an option. The SUV will also come with a 4WD system.

According to some rumours, Maruti may decide to use a 1.0- or 1.2-liter turbocharged petrol engine instead, which would enable the SUV to be sold in India at a cheaper tax rate. At first, the Mahindra Thar and Force Gurkha will be more expensive than the Maruti Suzuki Jimny 5-door (both of which will also get 5-door versions in the near future).
