Rolling With New Engine, Tech And Customization, The 2023 Toyota Highlander Debuts In Europe

Bringing a new engine, new tech and new customization options to the European market, Toyota presents the 2023 Highlander SUV.

First off, the model for Europe gets a new 2.4-liter turbocharged four-cylinder engine replacing the outdated naturally-aspirated 3.5-liter V6.

According to Toyota, the new setup delivers an output of up to 269 hp/198 kW, and a maximum torque of 419 Nm. Notably, these figures are slightly down compared to the 3.5 V6.

However, the new 2.4-liter powertrain is available only in Eastern Europe, whereas, in the Western part of the continent, the 2023 Highlander is sold with a hybrid system.

The latter underpins a 2.5-liter Atkinson-cycle petrol engine, which is paired with front and rear electric motors. 

Its output is rated at 248 hp/182 kW, with corresponding CO2 emissions of 146 g/km. The company stated that these numbers indicate the best power-to-CO2 balance in the segment.

Second update comes in the interior. The new 2023 Highlander for Europe now features a large 12.3-inch screen for the infotainment system. 

Among others, the system comes with cloud-based navigation with real-time traffic data, over-the-air software updates, 3D city mapping and fixed speed camera location information. 

Also new is the digital instrument cluster, which now comes with a new design that creates a three-dimensional effect, and is customizable to four different design themes.

All 2023 Highlander models in Europe come as standard with a wireless charging pad and Apple CarPlay, while Android Auto connectivity is via a cable. 

That said, the 2023 Highlander is now available for orders in Europe with first deliveries expected to commence in the fourth quarter of the year.
