Toyota GR86 And Subaru BRZ marks 10th aniversary with Special Editions

The Toyota GR86 and its Subaru BRZ twin, are celebrating their tenth year anniversary with a pair of special editions released this week.
Born out of a joint venture between Toyota and Subaru, both models, with the Toyota known as the GT86 or simply 86 (depending on market) prior, debuted back in 2012 with much fan fare.
Both models saw plenty of minor upgrades throughout the span of its first generation before the current second generation version bowed in late 2020 (Subaru) and early 2021 (Toyota).
Whilst their basic formula as 2+2 RWD sports coupes remain unchanged, both the second-gen GR86 and BRZ now harness a larger 2.4-litre boxer 4-cyl heart that outputs 232 HP and 250 NM to the rear wheels through a choice of a 6-speed manual or automatic boxes.
Unveiled just this week were special commemorative editions to mark the occasion of both cars turning 10 this year.

In the case of the Toyota GR86 RZ 10th Anniversary Limited, this special sports commemorative badge on the rear window, as well as on the top of the door cards, whereas the cabin gets matching Flame Orange-hued accents and trims as its exterior - a throwback to the original GT86's signature 'Brilliance Orange' debut colour.

According to Toyota, the GR86 RZ 10th Anniversary Limited special will see a limited production run, though the firm did not disclose how many units exactly it plans to make. Naturally, its availability outside of Toyota's domestic Japanese market will vary as well.
In Japan at least, the GR86 will reportedly cost ¥3,469,000 yen (approx. RM113,197.06) for the manual-boxed variant whereas the automatic version commands ¥3,632,000 yen (approx. RM118,515.92) instead.

Moving on to the Subaru side of things and the firm's anniversary special, christened as the BRZ 10th Anniversary Limited, sees a slightly different treatment.

Based on the mid-spec BRZ S-trim, it comes dressed in Subaru's signature WR Blue Pearl colour whilst rolling on black-finished 18-inch aluminium wheels. Also blacked-out here are the BRZ tailgate emblem and mirror caps, followed by the addition of commemorative stickers on its rear side windows.

On board, this anniversary special BRZ sports blacked-out trims and panels plus exterior-matching blue highlights and accents. There are also commemorative 10th Anniversary embroidery in the suede door trims.
Unlike Toyota, Subaru will reserve this special only for its home market of Japan where it reportedly plans to offer just 200 units in total. Each will be priced at ¥3,388,000 (approx. RM110,553.94) for the manual, and at ¥3,553,000 (approx. RM115,938.06) for the automatic.
