M8 – GAC’s Flagship Luxury MPV Unveiled

“Space Diamond” – This is the design language GAC when by when envisioning their flagship M8 luxury MPV which was successfully launched in the China market last week. 

The design which somewhat resembles the Lexus LM350 but made bolder has a distinctive shoulder and crisp skirt lines. The signature bold grille dubbed as the ‘Soaring Wings 2.0’ and the ‘Eye-Opening’ headlights pretty much dominates the front fascia. As for the rear, GAC terms the taillight as the ‘Time Tunnel” taillights and ‘Royal Salute’ turn signal which is claimed to impart hi-tech futurism to the M8.

The cabin is design to emulate a "mobile living room" packed with advanced technologies and ingenious design with the user in mind redefining the in-vehicle experience. A dashboard features a large 12.3-inch instrument cluster and a 14.6-inch center display dominating the dash facia which is seamlessly merged with the center console and a multi-function three-spoke steering wheel.  

As for the seating configuration, the M8 offers a 7-occupant capability with the option to stow away the third-row seat should the user require extra luggage space. In addition to that, the second and third row seats can also be slide back and folded up to turn it into a mobile business meeting room claims GAC. 

Two interior color options are available which is the black-and-white or black-red-gold hue. The M8’s seats and the door panels are upholstered in Semi-Aniline, an ultra-premium-grade of genuine leather which portrays the auspicious Cantonese embroidery-inspired patterns. 

As for the engine option, the M8 is offered in 3 variants, the conventional gasoline engine, hybrid and plug-in hybrid featuring a Toyota Hybrid System. The M8’s dimension is 5212mm in length, 1893mm in width and 1823mm in height. This new M8 is set to hit the roads in November 2022 and is projected to be a hit based on historical sales numbers of the previous generation M8 which sold nearly 200,000 units since its introduction in 2017.
