Prospects seem promising for Sono Motors, a German-based company, as it has announced that its solar EV (SEV), the Sion, has reaped orders over 32,000 units ahead of its launch.
Initially, Sono Motors unveiled the production version of the Sion SEV at an event held in July, which showed several improvements to the design and functionality of the car.
It fuelled the excitement of the public including transport companies in Europe, as it is evident when the company announced its bookings that have reached more than 20,000 units.

On average, the advance payment charged is about EUR 2,000 (MYR 9,056), which has now raised a total of EUR 40,000,000 (MYR 181,131,065).
Hence, if all these orders proceed as purchases, a total of EUR 502,500,000 (MYR 2,275,052,255) can be collected.
Notably, the latest order of 12,600 SEV units Sono Motors has received is from a car subscription company from Munich, FINN, which operates in Germany and the United States.
Therefore, to meet this high demand, Sono Motors will deliver 2,500 units of the Sion SEV to FINN every year until 2029.

That said, when combined with orders of 20,000 units from the public, approximately 32,000 units of the SEV produced by the company will be on the road before the end of this decade.
For context, this solar-powered electric vehicle is said to be the new future because compared to a normal EV, the SEV can travel further and longer without needing to be charged.
Outstandingly, the Sion SEV produced by Sono Motors can on average travel from 113 KM to 241 KM in a week using only solar energy.
