Porsche is planning an electric Panamera to slot above next-gen Taycan

German sportscar marque Porsche is gearing up to electrify its future properly. After confirming plans to build a new electric SUV to slot above the Cayenne earlier this year, sources online are now reporting that it will be followed up with the next generation Taycan plus an electrified new Panamera to slot above that.
Both the second-gen Taycan and new electric Panamera models form part of the Porsche brand’s new “electrified luxury” plan which will see up to six electric models developed and entering the market before the end of the current decade.

Both new EVs will reportedly be based upon a ‘sport’ version of Volkswagen Group’s existing Scalable Systems Platform (SSP). Developed by Porsche, this upcoming ‘SSP Sport’ structure adopts the backbone of the SSP architecture that’s been set as the basis of other volume-orientated EVs models for other Volkswagen Group brands. However, Porsche’s version will reportedly combine “Porsche-specific modules”, which will likely result in higher performance abilities.
Apart from that, key architectural developments pursued by Porsche for this its SSP Sport platform includes traits such as low cabin floor stemming from a slim battery pack, as well as rear foot wells similar to what’s seen in the current Taycan model’s J1 platform.

These, according to Porsche, will be crucial towards ensuring the new electric Panamera’s ability at providing a similar package as the current-gen Panamera four-door GT saloon. In other words, the electric Panamera will share the same bones as the next Taycan model, but it will be larger in size and positioned higher too.
Furthermore, reports online further indicate that the electric Panamera, which is said to be in early development stages already, will likely be unveiled by 2027, or after the reported new large electric SUV mentioned earlier, which slots above the Cayenne - this is slated for release by the middle of this decade (circa 2025).

As for the follow-up of the wildly successful first-gen Taycan, its replacement has been reportedly earmarked for 2027 release. Like the current model, single- and dual-motor variants will be available, along with a new and much more advanced 800-volt battery tech with greater energy density that should promise even more performance and greater range too.
Fans of the internal combustion-flavoured Panamera, however, should take note that a newly refreshed version of which is currently undergoing its final development stages. This, on the other hand, is reportedly slated for release much sooner, likely within this year of the next.
