Viral: Motorcyclist kicking off car side mirror caught on dashcam

A viral video shared online through the DashCam Owners Malaysia Facebook page recently by user TK Wong captured what seems to be an unprovoked act of aggression by a motorcyclist towards a car driver.

The incident reportedly occurred along Jalan Tun Razak towards the city centre around 3PM yesterday.

The 13-second footage shows the motorcyclist, who was riding at speed, kicking the side mirror off a white Kia Cerato whilst filtering (lane-splitting) through traffic. The act ultimately resulted in said Kia Cerato’s side mirror breaking, perhaps causing some other damage too.

What irked many netizens is how nonchalantly the motorcyclist committed said act before speeding off and disappearing into traffic ahead.

It must be pointed out that though the footage shows that there may be somewhat enough space for said motorcyclist to filter through, the actual view of said space is perhaps skewed by the dashcam’s wide-angle lens.

Nevertheless, the posting has garnered plenty of reactions from netizens, with some calling out the motorcyclist for reacting too aggressively towards the Kia Cerato’s driver.

Presently, motorcyclists in Malaysia aren’t barred from lane-filtering (or lane-splitting), but there have been a rise of accidents stemming from failed lane-filtering manoeuvres.

What do you folks think? Was the Kia Cerato driver at fault for seemingly closing the gap for the motorcyclist to filter through? Or do you think the motorcyclist is in the wrong for perhaps reacting too emotionally? Hit the comments below with your thoughts.
