Fresh name for VW ID electric SUV?

German car maker Volkswagen has been planning to get a new recognition for its electric SUVs model line-up.

The transition of these new identities will add numbering and particularly the letter ‘X’ to differentiate the wide range of ID brands.

According to CEO of Volkswagen Passenger Cars Thomas Schafer, he stated that the company needs to assess several possibilities before continuing with its plan.

While new names are being critically developed to suit its best range of groups, Volkswagen also needs to maintain premium models such as Golf and Polo to stay on top now that combustion-engine models about to enter its phased out era.

“The Golf name specifically has huge value. But at the same time, the ID brand has gained huge momentum’ he added.

In future, instead of ID 3 carved at each bonnet, the upcoming version might arrive in ID 3 X which is set to debut in 2025. However, nothing is yet to be confirmed.

On a different note, the CEO also shared to Auto Express that Volkswagen will launch 10 new models by 2026 including the electric ID SUV.

The new ID.3 SUV, however, will adopt the interior and running gear from the hatchback only with a taller body that is based on its first MEB model that is release to go on sale in 2023.
