Karak Highway Congestion (Image: The Star)
Caretaker Prime Minister, Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri announced during the launch of the Damansara-Shah Alam Elevated Expressway (DASH) that the government would be looking at further expanding the stretch along Karak Expressway by adding additional lane and a new tunnel at Genting Sempah. This expansion plan is to deal with the high traffic situation along the stretch that leads to heavy congestion on the Kuala Lumpur-Karak Expressway (KLK) from Gombak right up to Bentong toll plaza.
He further added that the DASH Expressway which measures 20.1KM would in actual fact cover a length of 55.4KM when the 13 exchanges are accounted for. This would indirectly result in economic growth and development in areas the Expressway passes through with spur in sectors such as housing and commercial especially in areas such as Puncak Alam, Elmina and Kwasa Damansara (Subang 2).

Furthermore, according to Datuk Ismail Sabri, the construction of DASH Expressway had created 12,000 job opportunities in areas encompassing management, engineering, technical, frontline assistants and contract workers. However the percentage of local vs foreign labour involved in the project was not disclosed.
On another note, the matter of regular flood occurrence at the East Coast Highway Phase 1 (LPT1) was touched on, where Datuk Ismail Sabri mentioned that flood mitigation works would be carried out to address the issue.
