The finalists vying for the 2023 Car of the Year crown have been fully revealed. For its 2023 edition, the Car of The Year awards organisation sees a representation of nine sponsoring publications helming its Organizing Committee.

For 2023, the jury has nominated 7 candidates from a total of 27 initial choices. Interestingly, all 7 finalists are either partially or fully electrified. Though unprecedented, this comes to no surprise given that the 2022 Car of The Year crown was snatched by a full electric vehicle (EV) – the Kia EV6.

Notable too is the fact that two of the nominated EVs here are reportedly destined to enter the local Malaysian market soon too.

Here are the nominees for the 2023 Car of The Year title:

Jeep Avenger

Kia Niro

Nissan Ariya

Peugeot 408

Renault Austral

Subaru Solterra/Toyota bZ4X

Volkswagen ID.Buzz

Last year’s winning car, the Kia EV6, won a close race against the Renault Megane E-Tech Electric, as the Korean entry scored 279 points plus the 12 individual top votes it garnered. Looking at the 2023 nominee’s list, competition for the 2023 Car of The Year crown is undoubtedly stiff to say the least.

By the way, the Car of The Year awards work through participating publications taking turns each year to gather the final vote, publicise the result and hold the prize giving ceremony. The jury for which consists of over 60 members representing several European countries.

A final voting round will take place in early January, which will decide the winner of the 2023 Car of the Year award. A special announcement and prize-giving ceremony follows that, which is slated to take place during the 100th Brussels Motor Show in Belgium on January 13, 2023.

Hit the comments below with your take on which of the nominated cars deserves the award.
