Indonesia’s Renewable Energy Effort, 1,400 EVs For G20 Summit

Indonesia, pledging strongly to its energy transition, deploying up to 1,400 EVs produced by Chinese-based automaker, Wuling Motors, for the G20 summit.
The meeting taking place in Bali until tomorrow will use 962 EVs, 454 motorcycles and 36 electric buses to transport delegates, journalists and security personnel to the location.
“The Indonesian government is very serious about entering renewable energy, which includes moving toward using electric vehicles. It was the best move when Indonesia decided to showcase it to the world at the G20 conference,” remarked Indonesia Ministry of Transport’s representative Adita Irawati.
Notably, in meeting its target of achieving zero carbon emissions by 2060, Indonesia announced last October to reduce carbon emissions by 31.89%.
Commenting further on it, she said, Indonesia also set a target to have around two million EVs occupying the roads by 2025.
Thus, the introduction of EVs at the G20 summit is a major step forward for Indonesia, displaying its potential in becoming a regional hub for EV production and digital transformation.

Adita concluded, "We have also developed an ecosystem for electric vehicles, as such Indonesia is not only a market or user for them, but also a producer, because Indonesia has natural resources capable of producing components for electric vehicles.”
That said, Indonesia is the largest nickel miner in the world, where nickel is a vital element used to produce EV batteries.
