LG Thin Actuator Sound Solution, The Future Of Car Audio At Only 2.5mm Thick
-full.jpg)
LG Display recently announced the development of Thin Actuator Sound Solution (TASS), a new sound technology for automobiles. LG intends to begin commercialization in the first half of 2023.
In contrast to conventional speakers, which are large and heavy due to components such as the voice coil, cone, and magnet, the TASS uses LG Display's film-type exciter technology, which allows the device to vibrate off display panels and various materials inside the car body to enable a rich, 3D immersive sound experience.
The TASS is only 150mm x 90mm with a thickness of 2.5mm and weighs only 40g, making it 70% lighter and 90% thinner than a traditional car speaker. This allows it to be installed in places such as the dashboard, headliner, pillar, and headrests while maintaining audio quality for passengers inside.

The TASS received the CES® 2023 Innovation Award ('In-Vehicle Entertainment & Safety' category) for its space efficiency, design innovation, sound experience innovation, and eco-friendliness by avoiding the use of rare earth elements such as neodymium (Nd), which are commonly used in conventional speakers.
We have transformed the conventionally heavy and bulky speaker into a high-quality ‘invisible’ sound solution by using our cutting-edge technology to elevate space, design, and eco-friendly factors and provide a next-level sound experience like none before.” said Yeo Chun-ho, Vice President and Head of the Business Development Division at LG Display.
